About Ink Colors
When printing was limited to large printers that required specialized knowledge to operate, and paper choices were few, the wedding invitation etiquette standard was:
"ecru cardstock, printed in black ink only".
Today, with the technological advances in printing techniques and paper making techniques, there are no limits on ink color, paper type, or paper color available for use on wedding invitations. You can use the color theme of your wedding, such as reception table linen colors or bridesmaids' dress color or you can select your favorite color! Classic, timeless, and traditional means something different to each person, so it is a matter of personal preference. Some brides select colors that fit the season of the year when the wedding will take place. Also, sometimes cultural traditions guide the color scheme.
Every year, Pantone and other color experts study trends and provide forecasts about the following year's popular colors. This leads the way for manufacturers to use those colors in their products.

the year - and it may be easier to find dresses and other products in a current trending, popular color!
Choosing Fonts
Fonts and wording typestyles are available in hundreds of styles. There are usually a limited selection of fonts offered by each stationery printer, but there is almost always enough variety to find one that fits your needs. Cursive style fonts are commonly used on wedding invitations. Straight or block print is more formal than cursive styles. Combination lettering using both block and cursive styles is popular. For example, using a cursive font for the bride and groom names and using a block print style for the rest of the invitation text.
The typestyle used on an invitation helps identify to your guests the type of wedding, whether it is informal or formal. This is probably the best criteria to consider when selecting typestyle(s) for invitations.
