Envelope Sizes
There are several choices when deciding on the size of an invitation. Your selection may be based on envelope size, style preference and perhaps, postage requirements. Envelopes come in standard sizes as shown in the chart below. Unless an envelope is custom sized, and you are making your own invitations, make them approximately 1/4" less than the envelope length and width. If ribbon, bows or other bulk items are included on the invitation, the size differential may need to be larger.
Standard invitation envelope size chart:
4 bar 3-5/8 x 5-1/8
5 bar 4-1/8 x 5-1/2
5-1/2 bar or A-2 4-3/8 x 5-3/4
6 bar or A-6 4-3/4 x 6-1/2
Lee or A-7 5-1/4 x 7-1/4
A-9 5-3/4 x 8-3/4
Some invitation companies have their own, non-standard, size cards and envelopes.
Square envelopes are also available in 5 x 5,
5-1/2 x 5-1/2, 6 x 6, 6-1/2 x 6-1/2 and larger.
Standard legal size No. 10 (4-1/8 x 9-1/2) envelopes are also popular invitation sizes.
